Analysis Framework for Translation of Maritime Legal Documents

Maritime activity around the globe currently generates a great amount of translation work, especially from English into other languages. This paper focuses on the analysis of the translation process in maritime legal and administrative documents. The study first establishes which maritime documents are most often translated and a tool is then developed to analyse such documents in detail, based on the concept of textual genre. Such analysis would help translators to better understand these highly specialised documents and thus contribute towards improving translation of the same

Estrategias de intervención en la franja periurbana basadas en los procesos y las estructuras del paisaje, la identidad y el carácter del lugar

Este artículo se enmarca en el discurso contemporáneo del paisaje, que durante el siglo XX evoluciona desde ser considerado una escena, a ser visto como un sistema dinámico que funciona mediante procesos. Evoluciona desde lo pictórico a lo instrumental, operacional y estratégico. Esta condición dinámica le otorga la capacidad de crearse a sí mismo y puede introducirse en la base del diseño. Este giro conceptual enfatiza las interacciones entre los procesos naturales, culturales, económicos y sociales. La transformación de estos procesos sirven de modelo para la nueva formación urbana. También se analiza la tendencia emergente de orientar el proyecto urbano hacia el paisaje. Se revisan estrategias de intervención urbanas con este enfoque que se convierten en potenciadoras de un conjunto de dinámicas interrelacionadas: sociales, económicas, ecológicas, culturales e infraestructurales. Esta especificidad del paisaje lo articula con lo urbano, y nos permite comprender cómo las ciudades se forman, se remodelan y evolucionan en el tiempo.This article is framed in the contemporary discourse of landscape, which shifts from being considered as scenery to a dynamic system that works through processes during the twentieth century. It evolves from a pictorial to an instrumental, operational and strategic perspective. This dynamic condition offers it the ability to create itself and can be introduced into the basis of the design. This conceptual shift emphasizes the interactions between natural, cultural, economic and social processes. The transformation of these processes is an inspiration and a model for the new urban condition. It also discusses the emerging trend of projects that orient urban project towards the landscape. This article reviews intervention strategies that incorporate this approach and become instigators of a set of interrelated dynamics: social, economic, ecological and cultural ones. This specificity of the landscape articulates it with the urban, and allows us to understand how cities are formed, revitalised and evolves over time.Peer Reviewe

En términos generales, la Cumbre de la OTAN en Bucarest ha sido un éxito. La Cumbre de la OTAN en Bucarest ha sido globalmente un éxito. Resolvió un número importante de cuestiones que estaban siendo negociadas, tales como la incorporación de Croacia y Albania. Como se esperaba, Macedonia no lo consiguió, pero el problema no debería tardar en solucionarse, y se han hecho progresos sustanciales respecto a Ucrania y Georgia, a pesar de la presencia entre bastidores de Rusia. El resultado no fue tan satisfactorio en lo que se refiere al diseño de un Nuevo Concepto Estratégico, pero se espera que la Declaración sobre Seguridad de la Alianza conduzca a nuevos avances en la próxima cumbre, que se celebrará en la primavera de 2009 en Estrasburgo y Kehl

Degeneración, tienes nombre de mujer : género y enfermedad en la cultura del fin de siglo XIX-XX

En este artículo me propongo analizar la relación entre género y enfermedad en dos novelas de la primera década del siglo: la desconocida Pityusa (1908) de José María Llanas Aguilaniedo y Dulce dueño (1911) de Emilia Pardo Bazán. Se examinará en primer lugar la crisis de fin de siglo como el colapso de una retórica científica en torno a los cuerpos. En segundo, se atenderá a las desestabilizaciones que plantean ambos textos en torno a los discursos médicos que entendían lo femenino como una condición patológica.In this paper I will analyze the relationship between gender and sickness in two novels from the first decade of the twentieth century: the unknown Pityusa (1908), written by José María Llanas Aguilaniedo, and Dulce dueño (1911) by Emilia Pardo Bazán. In the first place, I will consider the fin de siècle crisis as a collapse of the scientific rhetoric around bodies. In the second place, I will examine how, from their position in the so called fin de siècle crisis, both novels destabilize medical discourses that linked femininity with illness

The NATO Summit in Bucharest

Expectations are high ahead of the NATO Summit to be held in Bucharest on 2-4 April 2008. The Bucharest Summit arrives at a very important moment in the Alliance’s life.
